Cooyal Gold Rush Festival 2018

Despite the cold rainy weather the day was a huge success with people coming from all areas to join in the activities at the festival. Councillor Shelley started off the proceedings with an official opening which was followed with demonstrations, panning and detector competitions and various stalls to please everybody.

We were pleased to have Minelab Technician Jason Hoskings on site to answer questions and take charge of our Minelab demonstrations. He was warmly greeted by everyone on the day and having a person with his knowledge onsite to answer the numerous questions was indeed a benefit to all involved. We cant thank Minelab enough for allowing Jason to attend.

The Day managed raise over  $3500.00 which was proudly distributed between the McGrath Foundation and the Cooyal hall Trust. (Even with the horrible weather we all chipped in for a good cause!!)

Many thanks offered to Brian Walters from the Dubbo Prospecting, Fossicking and Camping for conducting the panning comp, and also a huge thanks to Fred and the crew from the Parramatta home club for running the coin hunt. Both activities went off extremely well thanks to the combined effort of both clubs.

It was great to have NAPFA president Sean Ashcroft and the NAPFA crew onsite with a stall and running a few kids comps. The information they provided was invaluable to all attending. We cant recommend enough the importance of joining NAPFA to help support the work they do on our behalf. Without a recognized body working for us we are lost and will lose all our rights.

The end of the day saw the Cooyal Crew put together another fine meal worthy of Materchief. Joyce and Tony and the group went above and beyond the whole day to produce some of the finest mouth watering food known to man.

And last but not least, the visitors, thanks you for braving the weather to help us celebrate the original gold rush so many years ago. without you the day would be worthless.

We are now looking forward to next years festival, please contact the shop or your groups rep if you have ideas or suggestions for the event
